Hurricane Chris blows into town to spread holiday cheer

Residents of the Booker T. Washington Nursing Center in Shreveport got a big surprise on Christmas Eve.

Shreveport native Chris Dooley, better known as rapper Hurricane Chris, stopped by to spread some Christmas cheer with holiday gift baskets.

He'd already surprised them Monday morning with a big-screen television that was delivered to the nursing home from him.

Chris explained that because he's now in a position to give, this was his way of saying thank you. "I got to give back to the community," said Chris, who grew up in the Cedar Grove neighborhood where the nursing home is located.

Children of family members visiting residents in the home crowded around the 18-year-old for autographs and pictures. Residents and staff erupted into applause as he made his way through the hallways.

"It's so fabulous and wonderful to see a young person coming and giving back to the senior citizens who paved the way," nursing home administrator Marilyn Powell said, as her eyes filled with tears. "They laid the groundwork in this community and he recognizes that and I think that's so honorable."

I appreciate when stars giveback to their community!!! Most mf's dont do that or only do it to get recognized. You dont seem like dat kind of man. The way you rap you can tell theirs nothin better out there in the world for you...
